Are CBD products safe?
The best way to ensure you are receiving safe products is to make sure the company you purchase from provides lab test results for their products. It is also important to understand the extraction method used to obtained the CBD. There are four extraction methods which are considered safe and effective: CO2 extraction, olive oil extraction, dry ice extraction, and solvent extraction.
CO2 uses pressurized extraction to draw CBD from the plant material. CO2 extraction produces a high-quality product which is free of byproducts. Olive oil extraction uses heat to draw the CBD from the plant material into the oil. Olive oil extracts are more prone to breaking down quickly once in storage. Dry ice extraction can provide a good product but is more easily degraded during the process of extraction. The solvent extraction method utilizes ethanol, alcohol, propane or butane to draw the CBD from the plant material. Ethanol and alcohol extraction produce a safe product as long as care is taken to remove chlorophyll from the extract. Butane and propane extractions are more likely to contain contaminants not removed in the extraction procedure. Care must be taken in examining test results to ensure the extracts are clean.
